Happy Clients

It's my great privilege to work in the incredibly gratifying world of creating visual imagery and telling stories for people the world over to be entertained and educated by...it is also a responsibility that I take seriously and I endeavour to do my very best no matter what scale of project I find myself on, whether it be a full blown Hollywood Studio Feature or a local artist or musician needing a promo shot or a showcase, it is my job to stand and deliver.

Hi, I'm Miko. Director of Cinematography, Film Maker, and Story Teller.

My Values

I believe in jocularity, commitment, passion, and dedication.

My Mission

It is my belief that we live in an amazing time in history and it is my mission to archive and document the passage of time with my camera...in doing so I am blessed to encounter and support many likeminded beings who are equally passionate about stories and expressing their ideas through the visual medium...

My Vision

May all beings live in peace, joy and fulfillment.

“Having Steven on board a documentary series with tight time lines was invaluable. Having very little time to set up shots, we often had to let events happen organically but wanted to maintain an artistic feel. He's an exceptional reactive cameraman with a great eye for unique shots that added a ton of production value.

His ability to shoot is matched with his fantastic attitude and professionalism. He's a real treat to work with and I would recommend him for any style of shoot."

-Mark Edwards
DOP

“Steven shoots great visuals and is always pushing himself to come up with new ideas. He has a keen eye for details and is continuously on the lookout for visuals that will highlight the theme of a particular story. Being a good cameraman is more than just having a good eye, they need to work well within a team and have a good rapport with story subjects. Steven was wonderful in all regards. What can I say? I highly recommend the guy!”

MAKE SOME NOISE

“I have worked with Steven Miko Burns as my Director of Photography on two documentary film projects since 2006.  He is quite simply the best DOP I have ever worked with.  He has great technical abilities, an amazing eye and artistic sensibility compatible with my own.  He is a very talented guy, has a fresh outlook, fabulous sense of humor and is completely relaxed on set. As a woman director in a Canadian industry still very much statistically dominated by male directors, Steven treats me as an equal, has and shows respect for my directorial leadership and aesthetic. I am so glad to have found him and would highly recommend him for any project."

"CFL Traditions involved breakneck city-to-city hops, finding equipment where none was to be had, to be used in studios where conditions were ever-changing, all the while marshalling, 89 former football players into 90-minute on-camera sessions. I got lucky. I had Steven Miko Burns on camera. Somehow, Steven managed to meld shots in a dozen different locales into a seamless flow that made Traditions look as though it was shot in one take, in one studio, under ideal conditions. After almost a half-century in newspapers, I still know almost nothing about television. What I do know is deadlines, performance under pressure, and utter professionalism. Steven provided all of them, in spades."
